A New Volunteer Hub arrives in Stockport to Celebrate Volunteers' Week 2021
Stockport has much to celebrate as we head into Volunteers Week [1-7 June] with a brand-new website to launch the Stockport Volunteer Hub. Stockport residents who want to volunteer can now easily sign up online. The hub website also makes it easy for groups and organisations looking for volunteers to promote their volunteering opportunities.
The Volunteer Hub is the legacy of the kindness of people from Stockport, who stepped up at the start of the pandemic to volunteer their time and who continue to do so. Healthwatch Stockport and Sector3 who are leading on the hub development feel it is a fitting tribute and wish to thank all the volunteers of Stockport no matter where they volunteer their time for their generosity and kindness particularly over the 12 months which have been a very difficult time for many people living in Stockport.
The new Mayor of Stockport, Adrian Nottingham agrees: “The past year in the middle of the most difficult days of the pandemic volunteers came forwards; some for the first time. I acknowledge the critical contribution that volunteering has made to us in the past and I affirm the vital place that volunteering will make in Stockport as we look forward to a time of recovery and discovery.
Therefore, I am so pleased to be endorsing the work of Sector3 and in particular the launch; in partnership with Healthwatch Stockport, of the Stockport Volunteer Hub.
I am excited to see how this Stockport Volunteer Hub will continue to affirm and develop volunteering across Stockport. I congratulate all those involved in establishing this important resource for Stockport and I look forward to supporting you and the work of the Stockport Volunteer Hub in this coming year”.
Councillor Amanda Peers, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Neighbourhoods at Stockport Council said: “In Stockport, we’re lucky enough to have an amazing voluntary and community sector. The pandemic has served to demonstrate the important role of volunteers in supporting inclusive communities across the borough.
I’d like to extend a huge thank you to all our volunteers who give up their time to work tirelessly for others. Volunteer’s Week is a great occasion to recognise the important contribution volunteers give to help strengthen the sense of community and make Stockport a great place to live.
I am excited to see the launch of Stockport’s Volunteer Hub. This will be a valuable resource in helping people get more involved with their communities. I would encourage anyone who has considered volunteering to register with the hub and I look forward to seeing the positive contribution the Hub has on the health and affinity of our communities.”
