The Department of Health and Social Care is inviting interested organisations to register expressions of interest for its £1 million Community Automated External Defibrillators Fund, aimed at increasing the number of AEDs in public places where they are most needed and help save lives.

An estimated 1,000 new defibrillators are to be provided by the fund, with the potential for this to double as successful applicants will be asked to match the funding they receive partially or fully.

As part of the grant award, applicants will be asked to demonstrate that defibrillators will be placed in areas where they are most needed, such as places with high footfall, vulnerable people, rural areas or due to the nature of activity at the site.

Examples could include town halls, community centres, local shops, post offices and local parks, to ensure that defibrillators are evenly spread throughout communities and easily accessible if someone is experiencing an unexpected cardiac arrest.

Applications are now open for a share of £2.4 million government funding to deliver local projects with a communities and place theme. The funding aims to address the diverse challenges faced by communities, enhance local assets, foster social cohesion, and create opportunities for economic growth.

Albert Hunt Trust will be closing in January 2029 and as a result are spending their entire £45 million resource. They are offering unrestricted core funding for Hospices, homeless charities (income below £1million), Health and Wellbeing charities (income below £150,000. Unfortunately, they are unable to support CIC’s and charities that operate overseas.

The Trust works with a broad range of charities, primarily in the North West of England, with particular emphasis on:

- Young Persons’ Wellbeing

- Elderly Services

- Education and Training

- Health

- Carers’ Support

- Mental Health

- Child / Family Support

Provides funds, resources and support to help local communities achieve their full potential. Supports charities with impact in 1 of following areas: Homelessness, Health & Wellbeing, Employability or Education. Up to £5,000 available

Ongoing deadline

The Charity’s aims are to support a wide range of charitable causes, particularly in the fields of welfare, children, education, medicine, music and the arts.In particular, the Trustees prefer to support smaller charities or projects. Grants typically range from £2,000 - £5,000 per annum. Multi-year grants up to a maximum of three years are considered.

Quarterly meetings

Charities supporting sick and disadvantaged people across the UK can apply for grants of up to £2,500. Funding supports projects of a humanitarian nature or supplement core funding, with priority given to organisations supporting the elderly, people with disabilities or living with serious illness, or those facing challenges with mental health, social exclusion, homelessness or other difficulties in their lives.

On going applications

These grants are for capital initiatives, i.e. buildings (new build or refurbishment) and equipment. They fund a broad range of organisations working across the fields of education, science & medicine, health & disability, heritage, humanities & the arts.

Decisions are made June and December annually

Up to £5,000 is available to projects focused on arts, culture and heritage; environment & conservation; strengthening communities; education, training & employment; health & wellbeing.

Decisions made twice a year

Provides small grants up to £400 to support charitable organisations towards broader activities which improve Health, Place or Skills for families in their community.

Quarterly deadlines in November, February, May and August

Two grant options are available small grants of up to £100,000 and major grants of £100,000 or more. The types of grant made fall into one of three categories – Capital, Revenue (often called ‘core costs’) and Project work. The most important thing is that you apply for what you need.

Ongoing deadline

Offer grants for core funding to registered charities with a total annual expenditure of less than £40k who are undertaking work that focuses on one of the following:

• Elderly people
• Children and young people aged 5 - 25
• People with physical impairments, learning difficulties or mental health challenges
• Social welfare
• Education and learning

Grants of up to £3,000 per year for three years are available.

Trustees meet 3 times per year to consider applications and a decision time can take up to 5 months from the date of submission.

A unique and innovative fund has been created to support tackling health inequalities that marginalised ethnic communities face when trying to get help from mental health services. Applications are welcome from user-led community organisations who experience race inequalities from across Greater Manchester. Up to £10k is available as well as one off core investments of up to £200k
